Can anyone recommend an aftermarket shifter assembly or parts supplier? I got my shift levers off, and the splines are wiped out - after 16k miles.
One word: Pingel. They make a shifter shaft out of stainless steel. Has a grease zerk on the inboard side. While you are at it, get their aluminum spacer and lose the heel shifter.
Mine did the same thing. Far less miles. The toe shifter splines and the shifter shaft splines were worn out. No amount of loctite is going to work. At best that is a band aid. Anyways, toss your original shifter shaft in the recycling bin along with your toe shifter 'cause it is crapped out, too. Check the splines on your heel shifter as they are porbably good. Slap the Pingel stuff on, put your heel shifter up front and voila! you are cooking with gas. By the by....Pingel is making their stuff in the good old US of A. God bless 'em.....I wish I had lost the heel shifter a long time ago. So much room on the left side floorboard, now.
MOCO has had this problem for a long time & they know it. They will not admit it though. It cost them less to deal with warranty claims than correct the problem. No quality control in this area whatsoever. I'm speaking from dealing with a bad situation first hand. It can happen on any bike no matter mileage. Mine had 1k first time & 2k second.
MOCO is using crap bolts made in China that stretch. Put in a good S/S bolt from Ace Hardware and you are good to go, provided the spines are not shot on the shifter.
