My advice - don't rush into it. Do your homework, look at many dealers, forums, ebay, anywhere you can find bikes for sale. You will learn what they are selling for and what is a good buy and what it not.
I opted for a low mileage, late model bike. I did not want anything less than a 2009, I wanted a RKC, low mileage, etc. I found a 2 month old 2009 RKC with 1200 miles on eBay. called the seller, we negotiated a price - deal done! Because I did my homework, I knew what a good deal was. By getter the used model, i saved on taxes, dealer prep, and that initial depreciation.... with the economy the way it is, this is a buyers market.
I think I stepped in crap. I was looking at 09 SG and prices were listed on tag $21,995.....I couldnt swing that.
I get an email out of the blue from another dealer that he is having a 15% off all bikes for 2 days. I said Crap....thats $3300.00 off...that brings me closer to being able to afford this.
I call him....
I ask him if he has any 09 SG's sunglow red...he say's "yes but it's a demo and it has 1000 mikes on it" I said I'd be right there......LONG STORY short:
I get the bike I wanted with security and chrome spoke wheels with a set of Rinehart slip on's allready on it OUT THE DOOR for $17,500......
I think it's the best deal I ever got in my life.......
6000 miles later...life is good.
I had to order my bike (09 RKC) in april (several months before 10's would come out) because I wanted abs, security and the laced profile wheel upgrade. I also got pewter pearl paint which is more than black. I paid $19,969 OTD for the bike. I also added some goodies and upgrades before taking delivery because I got a discount on those parts and they were also covered by the 2 year factory warranty by doing it this way.
When I bought my 2009 Road King back in July I got $2000 off MSRP without even negotiating. ALso got a whole bag of free HD goodies, 20% off all accessories and clothing for 2 months, and 1000 mile service for free.
I didn't try to bargain anymore than that because it was the bike I wanted at what I felt was a very fair price for both me and the dealer.
It also left me with a great relationship with my sales guy and the dealership. They have ALWAYS given me 20% bike accesories and my sales guy always stops me to talk when he sees me...... which will all make my next bike purchase easier.
