Just saw this thread, and MPG has been on my mind. I have a 2012 Limited 103 with tuner, Zipper AC, V&H mufflers, cats removed, SE255 cams (Upgraded 2 weeks ago) and I got 36 mpg for my last 2 tanks. I was thinking this is pretty low, but it looks like the cams make drink more gas. I have ride it pretty hard, but still think I should be doing a little better.
I think it may be all in the tune. What tuner are you using and did you change tunes/maps after installing the cams? I didn't see a noticeable difference in mileage after upgrading to the 255 cams, but I'm OCD when it comes to tuning.
With E10 gas/ethanol I stay mostly along these lines:
I can improve on this by using real gas (no ethanol), but such has become almost extinct around here. I don't use it because the mileage improvement doesn't match the price increase.
I have an 05 EG Standard, carbuerated, I get between 45 and 50. A guy I ride with who hass a 6 sp. and has to get to going 65 before he can use it says they gave me an old man's speedometer so I wouldn't go too fast. So maybe I riding slower than I think to get that good mileage.
'08 EGC (39,000 miles) with 103"/SE255 cams. I get 35-39 when mostly in town, 40-43 highway. I did get 48 one time out west where I found real gas (no corn). I can't understand how some of you get 50+ mpg.
My mileage didn't change when I did the engine work 30,000 miles ago..
My 09 has 27000 miles on it with an SE/AC,HD download and 4"Rineharts.I rode 170 miles today on the highway at 70-75 mph and a thirty mile side road at 55-60 mph.My gas mileage came in at 50 miles/canadian gal,or approx 41/us gal.
That is a stage II set up on an '12, 103ci EG Classic. Build is as follows:
Ness Big Sucker
Rinehart True Duals (headers too. Cat in trash)
S&S 510 cams
Delphi Dyno Tune
Yes, I was totally shocked. Ran two tanks through it. Same results. But this is just normal cruising trough the backroads and twisties without hammering on it except when needed to pass.
Second caveat; If I want to hear the pipes roar or I'm feeling like a torque junky, mpg is going way down. Maybe into sub 30. I can feed a lot of fuel into this motor if I want to.
