Default Oil Cooler Question

I have the premium oil cooler installed on my '07 Ultra. Went for a long ride the other day. When I parked the bike, I noticed that the oil cooler doesn't get hot, just warm, if you put your hand in front of it. The engine was definitely up to operating temperature. Anyone ever check your oil cooler after a ride? Is this normal? Thanks for any info.

Mine never gets really hot put I guess that means its doing its job. If the bike is running well I would not worry too much about it.

If you put your hand on the rubber hoses one is usually noticeably hotter than the other. Then you know it,s working.

Mine gets fairly warm...though I wouldn't say "hot". Definitely warm enough that I know it's isn't just the engine heat reflected on it.

Mine does the same thing..............gets warm, but not hot.

If you are stuck in traffic and the motor heats up good, the cooler will be hot as well until you get some air moving thru it.

I don't know about the specific oil cooler you have. I have a H-D oil cooler on my FLSTFI and when I installed it I noticed it has a thermostat. If the oil doesn't get that hot (perhaps because the ambient temperature is lower) there may not be a lot of oil passing through the oil cooler.

If it's warm it's doing something. I wonder how much good those oil coolers do for touring bikes. Mounted low behind the front tire it doesn't seem like it would get alot of direct air passing through it.

I suspect it does real well. At least it's not mounted directly in front of the front cylinder (as mine is on my Fatboy). In this case it partially blocks airflow to the cooling fins of the front cylinder and is subject to radiant heat from the front cylinder.

Mine just gets warm, even on a fairly hot day.

The reason it never gets hot is because you don't need one.
