Default SG dilemma! Please help!

Hey there! I've been riding sportbikes for 9 years now. I'm planning on purchasing a street glide here in the next few days. I need a few opinions on a used SG that i'm looking at. I like a tricked out SG & was wondering if I should buy a new SG & customize it or this one here:
2007 SG with lots of chrome for $20k
21" & 18" 3-d style wheels
113" engine diamond cut
16" ape hangers
All new matching floor boards, grips, pegs etc...
custom paint
dvd player & navigation
The guy says its well over $40k in this bike

If it really floats your boat go for it. If your going to do some touring the loss saddlebags to all the stereo equipment is a drag. If it were me i would buy a new one with the redesigned chassis and ride it away with warranty and figure out what you want to do with it.

i say buy your own and customize the way that you want it. looking at the pictures you posted, i don't really care for many of the mods that the po has done, especially concerning the audio. for me, saddlebags are way more useful than something to tote speakers around in. don't get me wrong, i like good sound as much as the next guy, but when you're doing 80 down the interstate, a lot of sound from the rear speakers is going to be blown behind you and you wont hear it.

also, do you want to be 'that guy' in the neighborhood?

the 113 engine is a plus, the paint is a minus. the wheels/tires are a minus (for me, i'm too short for that combo)

my big question would be why he is selling it for that price? kbb on an 07 sg is 17,205. for 3k more he is giving you high dollar engine mods, high dollar wheels, and high dollar audio. i suspect that if everything is in good working order, thats a good price. but you have to figure in what you actually want to use the bike for. in my case, it would be money wasted because that bike is not gonna be the best for touring anymore. but if you want to style around the neighborhood and blow folks away with the audio, it might be up your alley.

so in short, i've been absolutely no help at all have i?

I have an '07 SG with motor upgrades listed in the classifieds section that you might take a look at.

do your own--to many speakers -- wrong color (unless u like lime green) who did the motor and what does it have in it.

Used bikes are very reasonable these days -- if you look and apply some patience you can purchase 07 SG (stock) for a more than decent price.

21/18 wheel combo are 2500 with matching rotors and tire

The only huge dollar thing is the motor.

Weather you buy it or not he needs to think of a better way to keep those bags on the bike. I can see those srock pins failing with all that weight. I would also call it the Green Ghetto Glide.

Just what Rideon said. Better to buy new and do what you want to it. That color will be a tough sell.

Default .... for what it's worth!

I have not rode the pre-09 Touring models so I can't speak to them. But... I did read a lot of posts from this and other forums before buying my 09 Classic. The majority of those I read praise the changes made. If like me you buy an 09 now you can save a bunch of money on a 10 and have basically the same bike with money to start optioning it the way you want. I vote 09 or 10 if you have to have the latest greatest. My 2 cents.

Go new, you get the new frame, lager tire, warrenty. The green is not my cup of tea. JMO. And like stated above, losing the saddlebags to speakers will hurt on long rides. Good luck, ride safe
