Know some who do it, but that's on a side car rig on a big triumph. My feeling is that it would not be safe, both in handing and tire longevity. Motorcycle tires have a different profile and different tread patterns. Just my opinion though, others may vary.
try searching www.delphiforums.com for the darkside I think there was a site dedicated to those who wanted car tires on their scoots might be only the metrics though
has anyone used a car tire on back of a road king? i think rims only 3 inches wide. bikes a 96 flhpi
to put it in perspective a 3 inch wide wheel would be like a 160-180 tire i road 15x4in skinnies on my camaro and the tires were 165. i know sime of those metric guys like it so they can get a wide profile tire on.
to sum it up..
tread ware; + yes car tire will last way longer, unless you put a drag radial on it
rain; + its a car tire...
looks; - its ugly and you look like a retard goldwing wannbe
handling; +/- metric guys swear by it, but remember unless you get a bias ply drag tire its a stiff walled steel belted flat profile CAR TIRE. its not ment to be carved., they are ment to stay flat on the road, and sure in strait line a comparable compound car tire will out grip a bike tire but there is next to no grip on the edge..
But what do i know if you do it take some picks...

For all of those who say car tires make you crash and burn, I can tell you from expierance that it will not. before I bought my 09 ultra classic, I had a 2003 yamaha royal star venture that i had put a car tire on. I had over 5,000 miles on the tire when I replaced the bike. I had done over 6 months research involving the issue of having a car tire on a motorcycle. when I changed over to the darkside I found out the having a car tire gave me better handling and also better traction. I learned that when parking on grass or dirt that I was able to move the bike a lot easier then before. my Venture weighted, with all of the accessories over 950 lbs. I did have to relearn how to ride my venture but once i learned how to ride with the car tire, I loved having the car tire on the bike. now that I have an 09 ultra classic, I am looking at going this way as well, unless dunlop brings out a tire like the E-3s. in the research for the ultra classic I have found the car tire size of 195-60 r-16 fits perfect and you can buy car tires in this size. the biggest problem I had when I changed over to a car tire was to have someone mount the tire to the rim.
This is my two cents worth from a person who rode with the car tire.
thank you for your time

No handling problems? Where do you ride? I wanna run behind you through deals gap. That's where we can see if there are handing problems. I simply cannot believe there are no handling problems with a car tire on ANY bike. I have never ridden one, never wanted to, never thought they looked cool. I guess I am a total sceptic. I just don't see how a bike can go through curvy roads with a car tire on the back anywhere near as well as it does on a "normal" bike tire. I just can't get my head to wrap around the physics of how this would work.
I can't believe any dealer/independent would be stupid and mount a car tire on a motorcycle rim. The liability could cost him everything he owns in the right situation.
