If you still want to use the HK radio you can have it repaired at Iron Cross Audio here in New Jersey. They will address any issues and upgrade the software and everything else and warranty it for 6 months, you can extend the warranty to a full year. These guys are all ex HK techs.
You have options. The phone number is (201-207-7157) ask for Tony.
Your the man! Just talked to Tony and the radio get shipped out monday to him for all the updates and to fix my display. Thanks for the great advice I have never even heard of those guys.
I am on my 3rd radio have an 08 RG the 1st issue was backlight went out. 2nd issue screen went blank and 3rd. first started messing with cd's when you backup tracks it would freeze at the beginning. However now it is working...thinking when they washed it after 3rd replacement some water got in and it was still damp. Fingers crossed hopefully 3rd time is a charm. Good Luck.
thats why i went to a aftermarket radio i have a 09 streetglide that went threw 4 radios for differant issues.first 3 was cd issues the 4th one was the blank screen 3 they refurbished finally on the 4th one they pulled one off a 2010 and i didnt have any problems with it. but i didnt give it a chance to wait and see if i would any issues. then went with a alpine 105 head unit and a biketronics bt 1005 retro kit and put a set jbl p963 6x9 in my bags and boy what a sound system this is and i still have my controls to.
display went out on my 06 HK radio while it was under warranty. made appt at dealer to get it replaced. day BEFORE my appt the display started working again, dealer would not replace. once the bike was out of warranty, the display went out for good. I pulled it out and replaced it with a Kenwood head unit, arc speakers and amp from Firecap. sounds 1000% better than the stock unit ever did, and has a usb interface for my ipod which lets me control the ipod functions from the handlebar controls and radio face.
I have a '08 ultra with a Harmon Kardon. With radio on the speakers will quit working. Flipping the speaker control switch will bring them back on sometimes but they will go out again. Headset still works. Will set in garage all day playing with no problem. Get on the road and within 1 mile will quit.
