Just in the last few days my HK stereo on the 06 RG has been acting up. I have had the bike two years and never had any issues with the radio what so ever. Yesterday I took my bike out for a ride and the display was blank so I thought I maybe had a broken wire or blown fuse? So I checked the fuses and they were good so I pulled the outer fairing and the wiring was fine. Turned the ignition on and it was there, next time it was blank but I could turn up the volume with the hand controls and get sound, then a couple more time off and on the display was back. I can;t figure it out I have been doing a little reading on these radios and I thought they were great but it turns out to look like they are kinda chitty! Is this a common problem with the display being choosy and having a mind of it's own when it want to work. And if this is an issue does HD warranty the radios even if the bike is outta warranty?
Well I hate to break the bad news to you but........... Your Harmon Kardon is getting the blank screen of death! I am on my 3rd one all under warranty but the are refurrbed units not new. I don't think MOCO is going to cover if your out of warranty but good luck. You might wanna start looking for a replacement and not a Harmon Kardon if you don't use the CB and intercom on a SG I don't think you do.

DAMN! Thats not what I wanted to hear. I really like the HK other than this issue. I wonder if the newer units are better like out of a 09 or 10 being that I have the first year of HK in harleys. Aw well I guess I will put up with this until it craps out totally.
If you still want to use the HK radio you can have it repaired at Iron Cross Audio here in New Jersey. They will address any issues and upgrade the software and everything else and warranty it for 6 months, you can extend the warranty to a full year. These guys are all ex HK techs.
You have options. The phone number is (201-207-7157) ask for Tony.
My 06 unit crashed as well. First the backlight went out then several months later the display went out. As SICKBAGGER said it is the blank screen of death!
I sent mine off to the guys at Iron Cross but found out that it was unrepairable and they can usually fix most problems. They offered me $200 for my core which I accepted. I then asked about replacements units which they would have sold me one if they had one. I was told if I wanted another HK to just get one off Ebay but to get a 2007 or later unit. I got a 2007 unit for $400...since I got $200 from Iron Cross...it only cost me $200.
I stayed with and HK unit as I have the XM module and Hogtunes amp. The unit I got off Ebay works great so far...if I have another problem I would definitely send it to the guys at Iron Cross Audio again.
