Default Installing a stereo - need advice

Hi All,

I'm searching for my first used 08 Street or Eglide. I come across a bunch of them without stereos. My questions are, how hard is it to install a stereo & speakers in a batwing that has never had one. Should I go with a Harmon Kardon headset? I plan on using an mp3 player 80% of the time. Also what would you think the cost would run approx just so I can get an idea of what it will be if I buy a bike without one.

Thanks All

A lot of sites sell audio items for bikes. For an aftermarket system, check out sites like biketronics.com. I wouldn't advise wasting money on a stock HD stereo...too expensive, lots of problems reported, and the audio quality is not up to par with aftermarket offerings like Alpine and Sony. Also, in the end, an aftermarket system will probably be cheaper. Of course, if you want a intercom/CB system built-in like on the HD stereos, you are pretty much going to be limited to the HD stereo. There may be other brands own there that do this, but I'm not aware of them. Others may be able to offer some insight here.

As for the headset, I wasn't overly impressed with my HD one that came with my 08 Ultra. J&M makes a headset that gets good reviews, you may want to check into that.

Eglide standard is the only batwing touring bike that comes without a stereo. Where are you finding 2008 Streetglides without stereos?

I installed a Sony CDX-GT630UI in my 2005 FLHT using the Biketronics retro kit, Hogtunes speakers and Polk tweeters. works great.

Actually I was wrong it was a couple police interceptors and a few Eglides. Ok so looking at Biketronics look like the way to go. Are the HK stock stereos waterproof or something? The Sonys seem to need a cover except for the marine one.

Went with the Biketronics retrokit and their 5.25 speakers. Headunit is a Pioneer 710BT. I also just installed the Hogtunes tweeter pod.

Install was straight forward plus there is a sticky on the touring forum that gives step by step instructions with pictures. Would be very helpful with your first install.
