Only the Delphi FI bikes do it. It is caused by the ISC (idle speed control) motor. The idle is controled by a pintel or piston that is crossed drilled to allow air to pass over the butterfly which in turn raises and lowers the idle. This pintel is controlled by the ECM. Call it a high tech intake leak. When the engine is shut off the pintel will close completely then reset to it's start up position. When the piston is closed it pushes air outward throught the air cleaner and makes a slight whistle. Newer models with the Electronic throttle is controlled by the Throttle actuator and has no ISC. Hence 08 and later do not whistle.

My '01 and '07 Ultra did it every time. My '10 doesn't. I kind of miss it. I had a '98 softail with S&S engine & carb and sometimes it would backfire through the carb when I started it. I would get alot of looks while I sat there in a cloud of blue smoke. That was a motorcycle.

my bike was whistling at a stop light so i pulled over to check it out.....my voltage regulator had gone funky and was dumping 22 volts to my battery.....it was spewing acid and whistling....just about to blow
