Anybody ever take them off and leave them off for good? I replaced my engine guard with a new one and I like the clean look without them. Besides, they scratch my chrome engine guard. I'm thinking I can just use the leather ones that slide on the guard during cold weather riding. Do these scratch as well?
I take mine off for summer rush hour traffic here in Miami, helps with heat management alot. I just put them back ojn as the tem dropped to 70 today and did not want to get cold.
Ive got a neighbor that has just about stripped all the fasteners on his lowers and tour-pak... He wants to be a bad *** when the wife and kids arent riding and he wants to be husband father when they are riding with him .. I suggested the detachable stuff to him but he tells me he has plenty of time to take the stuff off. He is a stay at home dad (job loss) and ive got the detachable stuff on mine (just unemployed) but ive never had lowers on my bike and dont know if id want them ... Louisiana cold riding.. Come to michigan dude ill show ya cold ...
I know, I know........but we get a "damp" cold. It can be quite bone chilling. I like the wind protection of the lowers too even on warm days though. I'm torn in my decision.
Thanks MassHD! Looks like you may have given me just the answer. Those look like they would protect without the scratch. Nice!
Darren, I feel the same way you do about the cleaner look without the lower fairings. Riding in Colorado I put mine on in the fall and take them off in the early spring. Taking them on and off is no big deal only takes me about ten minutes and I have never scratched my engine guard. Does your bottom clamps still have the rubberized stuff on them? BY the way that is one cool bike!
