Default antenna on a bagger

iam putting a rear fender cover on my bike. dont really want the antenna sticking thru it, and donnt want to mess around putting it in the fairing. (dont use the radio much, mostly i-pod ) i was thinking about a short rubber antenna mounted upside down between bag and wheel....anyone tried this or have any thoughts, if it would work at all

Sounds reasonable, i don't like the stock whip sticking up through the hole in my filler. In the fairing might be easier?

In the fairing is the best stealth place for it. I bought an amplified one for a boat and mounted in in the fairing and it works just like the whip.

I never used mine either. I took them off and wrapped them up in a nice protective cover and keep them in my saddlebags in case I ever need them. I had the short version. I think the only time I'd ever want them is to scan for severe weather or something.

I went to AutoZone and bought a $20 amplified hidden antenna and installed it inside the fairing. Out of sight, and works great.

Have you tried it without the antenna? You might be able to pick up local stations just fine. I put a amplified hidden antenna fr. Checkers and it helped but then I put a y connection on with just the antenna cable curled up under the seat and got alot better range. Y antenna splitter fr

I did exactly what you want to do and it works out just fine. I put filler strips on my bike and had to do something with the antenna. I used the shorter rubber antenna that HD sells, removed antenna bracket and layed the antenna next to the rear fender zip tying it to the bike in a few spots to keep it from getting in the way of anything. Works well and costs just a couple of zip ties and a short antenna.
