I nearly got taken out over the summer by an old lady in a car who was riding right along side of me on the highway, doing about 70 or so. I was passing her and looked into her car as I was passing. She had her window down and we were shoulder to shoulder. A car moved into my open space so I had to ride along side her for maybe 15 seconds, but I knew she knew I was there. Next thing I know, she's moving into my lane. Things go into slow motion and I think she's got sloppy lane control. Next thing I know, she's IN my lane and I'm edging to the left to get out of the way, horn blaring, with no where really to go. I wind up lane splitting at 70 plus and she doesn't back off! I'm really thinking "so this is how it ends. I'm gonna get hit!". I figure the only thing to do is gun it to get away and I manage to pull ahead and around her. THEN she slows down.

I gave a bell to my cousin when he bought his new bike. I however, never had a bell and totalled two bikes within a year or so of ownership.

My current bike did not have a bell either...until now. My g/f got one for me as a Christmas gift. I feel safer now and as a result, expect to own this bike for many years.
