Default Power Commander V question

I have read alot, cant find the answer, so i will post it to the pro's.

Bike History,
2009 Electra Glide Standard

Do you need the autotune when you are doing a simple air cleaner and high flow exhaust? Is the autotune for more major mods like pistons, cams etc?

Thanks

Nope, you'd be good to go. Just call Jamie (Fuel Moto) and tell him what you'll be running and he'll map it for you. If you're just doing the mods you speak of, you'll be laughing at how easy this is. Seriously. The PC-V is quite literally plug-n-play. The AutoTune will fine tune it a bit more precise. I bought an AutoTune from Jamie because nobody really had a map for the 103's that are in the police bikes. That, and I will be running a bit of a mismatch exhaust, by only a minor degree though. And, I learned I can run the AutoTune on each of the three bikes by merely swapping from bike to bike which is a cost effective way to fine tune all three of our bikes. Considering I may do a cam swap to my girl's bike, and perhaps cam & head swaps on my bikes later on down the road, it made REALLY good sense to me.
So, I'd assess your future plans and if they won't include any other mods, I'd just skip the AutoTune. Either way, call Jamie for tuner, and I was more than pleased with Shawn from Dr. V-Twin, ya can't go wrong with these guys.

Best of luck with your choices.

I agree with Da Butcher. However, I would probably get the autotune. Maybe wouldn't notice the difference but I'm a little **** on that stuff.
Jaimie's maps are very good tho.

I agree with everyone here. AT isn't necessary for most riders, but fits in well with those who will be making incremental changes to their configuration and/or those like me who just like to tweak. I would buy the PCV from Fuel Moto, then upgrade to AT lter if you feel you need it.

I'm surprized no one mentioned one of the main reasons for buying a PCV with or without auto tune.

Ya know, adding a PCV is a good idea even on a stock scoot. It really lowers head/exhaust temps and gives you extra usuable power. We tend to mostly consider it a "fix" ony required when we mod intake and/or exhaust, but it really does have it's place on even stock scooters.

That said.....Why autotune? Well, autotune ain't just for the "tweeker", just as PCV ain't just for modded bikes.

Autotune has this really neat thing going for it in that it's always doing the tweeking for you. Tweeking caused by changing riding conditions, changing loads, changing weather or altitude....It's not required at all, but it certainly is a nice and useful feature.

As far as those who make mods and can't find a map, you can always get a dynotune and program that map into your PCV, or you can buy the autotune and forget dyno's.

I don't think for a minute that autotune is silly/frilly/overkill even on stock scooters....I consider it a really effective refinement.

The PCV however, I consider almost essential even on stock scooters.

I'm hearing ya and am also an AT fan, but I really don't think a rider who is buying a Stage 1 outfit (mufflers, tuner, and AC) needs AT if he doesn't plan on future mods, and if he buys from a dealer like Fuel Moto who will provide an accurage map, and if he isn't a pathological tweaker like me who likes to continually mess with things.

The PCV in concert with the stock ECM, temp and MAP sensors is capable of providing a very accurate tune in practically any environment as long as the base map is accurate to begin with. From my experience Fuel Moto's maps are spot-on and if implemented will provide accurate AFR and ignition tuning in most any atmospheric conditions and altitudes.

All that said, AT is staying on this bike and I wouldn't try to dissuade anyone from buying it if they have the money and really want it.

I quess the point of my whole last post was to drive home the fact(my belief based on my experience) that even just a PCV alone is a vast improvement over stock. My best advice to anyone who buys a new HD is to first install a PCV and ride it awhile, then make any changes you want, but first install the PCV even if you leave it stock. Stop thinking of it as a fix, and start thinking of it as "required".
