Ok, I now have a 2008 EG and my wife got me a set of rinehart slipons for it. I talked to the local stealer and he told me that if all I changed was the mufflers I would not need to change the mapping. Everything is stock except the slipons that I just installed. The problem is as soon as I started it up and let it warm a little I hit the throttle and saw a flame shoot out the right tail pipe. Looking into the pipe after I shut it down the right side is much blacker than the left. Could I have put the wrong pipe on the wrong side or what. In the directions it said to put this number on one side and that number on the other side. However the only number I saw on the muffler was not either of these. Not sure what to do now. Holding the hand over the exhaust lets you know that more is coming out the right side for sure.
I have put on quite a few slip ons and never had that happen to me, seeing flames come out the pipe.
Unless you are using true dual pipes you are always going to have more exhaust come out of the right side pipe, and then obviously that is why it will look blacker on the inside than the left pipe.
I talked to the mechanic at the dealership and he said that I must have something else going on. Just putting slip ons on the bike would not have this effect. I plan on taking it up to him on Monday.
You got a lean condition whereas the pipes are getting hott enough to ignite the exhaust gases and causing a flame. Wont cause a problem now but could possibly damage the packing inside the mufflers if it afterburns for more than a few seconds. Get it remapped and it will solve this problem
