Default ABS Wheel bearing?

I am wondering if you can run wheels with ABS berings installed on a non ABS bike?

The difference in ABS and non ABS bearings are the magnetic sensor inside. Some have said that there is a minor height difference, but I am not sure if there is or not as I have not compared the two. They are both 25mm. I believe that you should be able to run them in a non ABS bike as you don't have ABS. If you were to run it the other way around you would throw a code without having the sensor bearing.

Thats what I was thinking. I am not sure about the spacers though. Are they the same part number for ABS and Non ABS? A friend got a good deal on an 09 roadglide but doesn't like the wire wheels so I am helping him locate a set of mags.
Thanks,

Thanks,

Dawg is going to come back and tell you... but in the meantime, No the spacers on the left side of the bike are different. The ABS sensor-sensor is part of the spacer on an ABS bike. All you would have to do is run a non-ABS spacer on that side. I'm sure it would be fine...

For the price of a non-abs bearing...I wouldn't. They are about $20, p/n is 9276. I'm not saying you can't do it...I'm merely saying "why?" when it's a cheap fix to do it the correct way? Just saying.

I know when I was putting on my wheels, I didn't realize they came w/ non abs bearings. Front wheel/bearing was being "pinched" when tighten. Simple spacer fix? Yeah, maybe...but again "why?".

Man, one thing I have learned spending all the money I have on my past 3 Harleys is...

"Do things right the FIRST time!" It will save you ALOT of headaches AND money!

Any other experiences with this? I have also purchased a 18" ABS wheel and have a non ABS bike. I'd rather not spend the extra money if it's a waste.

Thanks

I was wondering about the demensions of the spacers, IE... is the ABS bearings thicker requiring a narrower spacer than stock if used on a non ABS bike.

If you think about it, the tire and rotors have to be in the same exact place (in reference to the forks and brake calipers) with both an ABS and Non-ABS bike. So if the ABS Bearing and the Non ABS bearing is the same width (and I do not know if they are - you need to check) then the spacer of a ABS bike is the same width as a Non-ABS bike.

Looking at each variant, the bearing looks to me to be the same width as they both are sunk into the Rim the same distance...so therefore it looks like the ABS and Non ABS spacers have to be the same width as well.

Just my Opinion.

EDIT: And I am completely wrong. The bearing on the left side is thicker than the Non-ABS version, so the spacers must a different width too.... see below

I bought a 2010 18" ABS SG wheel to run on my non-ABS 08 SG and had to remove 1 wheel bearing (the wider one with the ABS sensor) and added 1 new non-ABS bearing. I'm installing the wheel tonight.

1 of the 2 bearing in and ABS bike is the same as non-ABS.
