I spoke with a guy a few days ago that had one bind on him (new style wedge). But they only bind if allowed to bottom out and that spring kills any chance of that.

Make sure the spring isn't too long, where it's adding pressure behind the wedge while it's in it's home position. It's only there to stop it from going backwards. If it is too long it will make your chian run tight (whine). I had to shorten mine a tad after the first intall.

I am real happy with this wedge, now that I added the spring.
I would do it again if I got another bike.

Hey Ed,

For the detail oriented, the spring you refer to is at Ace Hardware, and costs a whole .40 cents! It is a #148 compression spring. Took a bit of searching. Never knew Ace had such a large spring collection! The 148 fit perfectly over the rod that goes into the wedge. It doesn't look like I will have to shorten it, but I have not assembled the whole unit yet. My clutch spring will be in today (I am told) and I will be on the job tonight.

Question. Does the oil run out after you fill the wedge? Just seems like it would drip out before I get the cover all bolted back on and fill her up with fresh fluid. I guess it's not an issue or you would have mentioned it. I will get my answer tonight!

If the "new" assembly for "HOTBIKES" has to be added to or modified;
"Has anyone contacted HOTBIKES to hear their response to the mod?"

Despite wierd punctuation, this man makes a valid point.

If i'm paying for a new or upgraded part of any kind, it shouldn't need an 'insurance spring'

Then stay with the stock contraption.

There is a whole lot of things in life that "shouldn't be", but this set up for me is prefered over the stock one. (Not so, without the spring). I am using the best available option for me. Period.
Show me a better one, I'll look at it. So far, the "Faast Ed modded SOHO" is the cat's meow!

Every person that I know that has asked them about the problems, have all had the same response. "We have had very few complaints".

I ain't contacting nobody to give them ideas that help THEM make profit. I give a *** what they "think" of my idea. I am the one that I have to satisfy. Nobody else (well, except for the wife and kids,...my boss,...my parole officer,.. my mother in law,...)

Don't worry about the oil coming out. Getting the tube wet is plenty.

I bought a half dozen different sizes and had them handy when I got to tinkerin'. And even then I had to snip a lil of the one I used after a test ride. Almost a year later, no complaints! I'll do it again to my next bike.

It is indeed better than the stock pc of crap.
""Has anyone contacted HD about that?"
"What do they think of it?" (Pure sarcasm)

Mine came in the mail Monday, my Cometic gaskets came in yesterday so tomorrow I'll be installing the wedge in my primary.

Trying decide if I should try the B&M trick shift, Dextron 3 or just go with what Iv'e been using Moco primary case oil.

I'm just a bit apprehensive about installing this bugger especially going the ATF route, might just stick with the Moco oil.

OK, big thanks to Faast Ed and other posters here. I competed the job last night and did a short test ride. All I can say is WOW! what a difference. My primary has not been this quiet since...EVER! I used the little 148 spring from Ace Hardware, and yes, Ed, I did have to trim it a bit. You are the man! Also put in the 98A clutch spring, and while the lever pull is noticeably increased, I LOVE how it engages.

Any of you on the fence about this mod I say get off and go for it! You won't be disappointed. This is a realatively simple mod, and IMHO is what Harley should have designed. After installation my bike feels like it got its ***** back. I can romp on her now with no metal on metal sounds. Life is good.

Check my post in the primary section for some photos and other input.

Well....... crap, I picked up the new design H-D part a year or so ago and just installed it in the past couple months. I noticed right away it developed a whine and after a 300 mile ride it was loud, but was quiter the next time out so I figured it was just heat buildup and may get better with breakin time. The whine is something I'm not used to because my bike is an 03 and had the manual adjuster. I thought the darn chain was tight but with no experience on the subject I turned here and find a new better best thing going is the SOHO part..... I was tempted to pull the H-D part and reinstall the manual adjuster for fear of screwing something up with the auto adjuster and tight chain. Looks like I'll be doing it again, what is the cost of the SOHO part plus the .40 cents for the insurance spring ?
