Default Monster Ovals question

For those who are running monster ovals, how are they compared to stock? Just got my 09 FLHT and was thinking of either Monster Ovals or Brouhard by Bub slip-ons. I have only listened to sound bytes online (via youtube) and the M.O.'s seem that although they are deeper, they are not much louder than stock. Any truth to that? The Brouhard's seem pretty loud. Any help would be appreciated. Looking for a pipe that will let people know I am there, but won't give me a headache 20 minutes into the ride.

Thanks,
B.

I've only listened to one set in person. All the bike was doing was idling with the owner lightly blipping the throttle from time to time.

My "impression" was that they were a little louder than stock at a steady idle and definitely louder than stock when the throttle was blipped. I don't remember thinking they were obnoxiously loud and the sound was very deep and rumbly, much more so than the stock exhaust. They do sound good. I wish I could have heard them going down the road.

MO's and FuelMoto's Jackpot slip-on's are the main systems I've considered for my bike. I had the opportunity to listen to a new set of Jackpot's a while back and they're very good too. They also offer a much deeper rumbling sound than stock although I don't think they're quite as deep sounding as the MO's are. Their quality is excellent, easily the equal of, if not better than, the MO's and the good part is they're quite a bit less expensive that the Monster Ovals are. The only confusing part with either of these exhaust is I've read posts in this forum that have run the gambit from calling either of them "way too loud," "just right," to "way to quiet!" So it really just depends on the individuals impression at the time. That's why I've made the effort to try to find folks that were willing to let me listen to their bikes in person!

I think either will fill your requirement of:
Looking for a pipe that will let people know I am there, but won't give me a headache 20 minutes into the ride.
Good luck with whatever you decide!

Ride Safe,
Steve R.

i have had them on mt 09 flht for 9 months
when 1st fitted i was disappointed to here how quiet they were compared to my previous vance hines basic slash cuts
adding the v/h tru duals improved the sound ,but still not real happy with em
did a big trip recently 2 up with gear and finding now that these mufflers will scrape badly when ridden hard
anyway each to their own choices but i find em a little too quiet and not real happy with em scraping around the mountain
cheers

I have had mine on my 09 Ultra about six months, they are a deeper sound than stock but it is a soft lower tone. They may be a little bit louder than stock mufflers but not much. I like them on the road especially going up hills they do not get that loud pop/rattle that others seem to have.

I've had the Monster Ovals on for a year now and never had a problem with them scraping the ground. They are louder than stock for sure at idle, and when you get on it they wake up. Very happy with mine because I can ride all day and not need a bottle of asprin. I had the Rinehart true dual system on my 06 and although I liked the sound they would cause my ears to ring after an hour or so at highway speeds.

Nobody here has said what they're riding but my Ultra hasn't scraped yet. I've only had them for about 1000 miles, though.
I like the sound. They're so deep that they actually sound louder with ear plugs or with a 3/4 helmet. The nice thing is they sound way better than stock without being obnoxious. I still hear the radio and the neighbors haven't called the cops yet.
Oh, I also think they look great. I rotated the (black) tips to match the angle of the bags.

I love my monster ovals on my 09 ultra classic. I want to hear the tunes and still hear the nice low rumble from the pipes.

I've had mine on since they came out for the '09s. These have been my only set of slip ons I've ever had since my '09 is my first Harley. They are not as loud as other slip ons out there. My neighbor across the street has Rhineharts which sound real raspy and can get loud when on the throttle. This other guy down the street has Thunderheaders and they are loud as well. If I wanted loud I would go with the Thunderheaders, why anything else?

As for the MO's, I think they are a perfect blend of a deep exhaust note without the irritating and obnoxious noise that Harleys are known for. I love how I can cruise and hear the radio with no problem. Sometimes I wish they were louder, but it hasn't got to the point where I'm ready to get rid of them. I haven't had any issues with them scraping although I don't ride like I'm on a streetbike. Those days are over!

Your best bet is to go to an event at your local HD dealer and try to hear some on someone elses bike. Good luck!

I have MO on my 09 Ultra deeper sound than stock loud enough for me when you twist the grip. I ride on weekends with the local HOG group and many members have said
that they love the sound. As for scraping I do figure eights and circles in the parking lot
and drag the foot boards and have yet to ding the MO's .
FWIW I have 7000 mi on them and not sure but I think they are louder now than when new.

I have the MO and the Power Dual Header on mine. Love the sound, nice deep sound, not obnoxiously loud. I have my softail with V&H true duals for obnoxious when I want it. They look good IMHO too. I have scraped mine once, with the Little Lady onboard, leaving my driveway at a strange angle. Won't do thtat again.
