I agree with the other posts. This type of set up is a compromise. People do it because there is more room in the bags for a powerful amp, larger speakers, and a sub.
You are putting the sound behind and below you so the speaker in the bag set up requires REAL POWER. You cannot skimp on this. The Rockford Fosgate you have is providing only 50 watts x 2 @ 4 ohms. You probably need at least 100 watts going to each speaker down there.
When these systems are properly done they sound great to others not on the bike at speed and otherwise. The sound received by the rider is better, but still compromised; nowhere near as good as spending the same money at the front of the bike in the fairing and fairing lowers.

keep in mind that you really need to be at least 6 feet from a subwoofer to really hear it, likewise any real bass sound. That should make for a tricky riding position for you since you'll need to sit ahead of the front tire Next time you want to lob a few rounds of FMJ into that Civic that's shaking your house from the neighbor's driveway, remember they can't hear the bass as well as you can! They're too close, sitting inside that 6' circle just like you are on the bike. Don't believe it? Have a buddy ride your bike at whatever preset volume you like, and you ride his about 20 feet back. Betcha you can hear your stereo pretty good, or at least the bass.
Speakers facing each other instead of you wastes a lot of power, you need them facing you as much as possible. Best sound will come from turning the treble up & base down anyway, so you may want to re-think your whole system.
As mentioned, some tweeters & mid-range right in your face are the best/first course in sound you can hear at high speed.

Edit; long shot, but something to check: make sure the two saddlebag speakers aren't 180° out of phase from each other, i.e. the + & - reversed on one of the speakers/leads. That'll give you a push/pull setup where the speakers will really cancel each other out.

I'm just building my sound system, I purchased a Sony with 17 watts per channel 4channel system
purchased a biketronics amp
purchased Walmart.com 5.25 200w speakers for the fairing.
Hogtunes, speakers for the lowers. I don't have anything in the rear, I ride alone
I think this should be ok, just for me, any arguments here?

Not your only problem.....Did you ever yell into a box fan when you were a kid? The sound you manage to hear out of your wheel will be "Chopped up" at best..

Did someone recommend this install? It jsut doesn't seem like it would make sense to begin with... Anyone have any good luck with a subwoofer in a saddlebag installation? Any good sound?

Heres my input to this fiasko. If you have a car youll see that the rear speakers are facing the rear window in most case. The speakers produce a sound and is projected by the angle of the window to the front. Now the bike you put them like in front of each other ,if i am correct, with the wheel in between.Ill say like one guy said here you will need an amp the size of a tourpak to ear them.Big is not always better. If you have a tourpak i would put the speaker pods on it with a good set of 6.5 and a good 4 channel amp of 50 watts rms plus.My other solution would be those saddle top that can take a speaker(forgot the name). What i am doing with mine is 2 ways infinity good for 45 watts rms,at the front and a good 2 channel amp to push them.that should be enough for me.

Guy that shows up when we end up some places put $2K into his stereo system on his SG. It does sound awesome...when it's sitting in the parking lot or a stop light. To be honest, it doesn't sound so hot when puttin' down the road...the bass audio tones clash bad with his loud pipes.

Different strokes for different folks.

Just installed J&M 7.25" set up with an ELF audio amp on my 05' RG, sound is amazing... Worth every 450 dollar I spent on the whole set up.

Look on the bright side, you'll sound cool in the parking lot. The stereo store by me makes a fortune setting these up for guys, but they tell em they won't hear it when rolling.
