If you plan to change cams again, then go with adjustable push rods. If not, reuse the stock ones. You won't have problems with adjustment and noise if you use the stock. Properly adjusted, the adj rods work ok, but a lot of people have had issues with them.

If you find your local HD labor rates too high, then try a little outside your area, or try a good Indy. Our local HD rate is $90 an hour...but less than an hour away, it's $40 an hour. A good Indy should save you some bucks as well.

It takes less time to use time-saver adjustables. To re-use the stock pushrods you need to remove the rocker covers, rocker panels, and breather panels. It's almost worth the $150 for adjustables to not have to go through this ordeal, but once you're done you're done and you don't have to worry about them getting out of adjustment. OTOH, I had Rivera Taperlites on my old Evo that I rode >100k miles and didn't have any trouble with them at all.

My dealer quoted me six hours at $75/hr. using adjustables, which is one reason I decided to do it myself.

On another note, some cams require the use of adjustable pushrods. My 575's are of that variety so I had no choice but to use adjustables.

Good point. What dictates this? Is it lift?

Pretty much. With the 575's it has .575 lift and needs the adjustables. I know the 510's do not need adjustables dependent upon head gasket thickness and whether the heads were decked or not, but I don't think you can go much higher than that without adjustables.

Some cams have a smaller diameter base circle to get more lift without increasing overall size of the cam.

With adjustable pushrods you KNOW that you are getting lifter preload set right. With production part tolerence stack up and fixed length rods you have no idea where lifter preload is at!

Got mine done for 2hr labor @ $65.00 per ($130.00) 255 cams ($240.00) and Adjustable P/R ($149.00) and dyno time ($130.00) Less 15% for the parts so around $650.00
