And it's not just about lawyers (I am one, BTW) suing for copyright infringement, but it is also a federal crime. A housewife downloaded 88 songs on the internet got indicted in federal court, and her FINE, not damages to the copyright owner, are over $1mil. Copyright infringement is a FELONY (you lose you right to have a gun for life) and if it involves a counterfeit label, illicit label, counterfeit documentation or packaging, the fine can be from $2500 - $25,000, per copyright violation.
GarArnett, I hope you read this. In the case you mentioned about downloading music, does it make a difference if the accused (the extent of my court phrases) if said person pays an annual fee to a company such a Limewire?
i'm not a lawyer, and i didn't stay at a holiday inn express last night, but i would imagine that it would depend on what the fee you are paying is for. if its for use of their service, then i would say no, it makes no difference.
if you are paying royalty fees, then it would make a difference.
speaking of royalty fees, did you know that you now have to pay a monthly royalty fee on top of your subscription fee for xm/sirius? that blows......
I agree that you should not be able to steal it I just don't want to get robbed either
Free market society. If you don't want to pay $5, $50, $500 or whatever for a manual, tool, part, etc...then don't pay it. If people are bummed that something costs so much money, go invent something new, then your own manuals, whatever...and charge whatever you want.
You aren't getting robbed. Nobody is putting a gun to your head, forcing you to buy something.
