Paranoia
Service your bike as needed and just keep riding....I have 77k on mine. It still has the original wheel bearings, stator, regulator, clutch, belt, ect. I would ride it anywhere, anytime with no worries.
If you've done long trips before, I'm sure you program the phone numbers and addresses of the closest Harley Dealers for the places you will be visiting in your smart phone. If no smart phone, bring either the Rand-Harley Road Map book, which you can purchase at Barnes and Noble, which has all the Harley Dealers addresses and phone numbers, or HOG sends out a smaller version of same which also lists all the dealers with icons on the maps.....just in case.
Even without 39,000 miles on my 08 "Electraglide" Ultra, I've needed those numbers on long and sometimes short trips.
Ride Safe.

I have a 08 Ultra with 39,000 miles and will be going on two long trips in 2010. Everything with the bike seems fine but I am paranoid about a major failure on one of these trips. I worry about wheel bearings, stators and clutch. Are there any preventative things that should be done other than normal maintenance or should I just keep riding till something happens?
the only thing I've always looked at prior to a long trip is the condition of my tires..went to sturgis a few years back with someone who decided to wait on tires till after the trip cause they "had a few miles left on em" watching him blow a tire at 80 and go into the ditch convinced him it was not the smartest thing to do...
If any maintenance is needed, if it works with your mileage, have it done just before you
leave on your big trip. That way your bike will be fresh to go.
I try to plan having new tires on before heading to Sturgis.....but that's just me.
