Ok,
Like stated in other posts, SEST's are going for $225.50/shipped on Ebay. According to the ad, these are brand new and unsealed. They come with no warranty but the part # matches with the current # shown in the H-D catalog so they appear to be current. Buy it and take some chances I guess. That said, now I'd need tuning assistance. I don't pretend to know enough about programs/software/etc to tune it myself. To do so, I'd need to spend extra $$ on software and a cable. My local dealer(s) are closed thru the Holiday weekend so I'm throwing some questions to those experienced here.
1. Would I need to buy software/cable for the dealer to tune?
2. With my current set-up (09 FLHT with SE intake/V&H slip-ons/stage 1 download), how time consuming is it for the dealer to connect my SEST to mate with my ECU, do whatever pulls would be required to simply install a canned map for my current set-up?
3. Can they simply connect and download a matching canned map?
Local rates are $70/hr labor but not sure of rates re: basic mapping.
I'm not really interested in more than a close matching map as I will probably go the cam/.030 gasket route next winter and spend the $$ on a good tune at that point. My thinking is that the $225 cost + basic canned map cost would about the same as a PCV/good canned map from Jamie. Not about a pi$$ing match between the two systems but what the post expenses are with the SEST ? I really don't want to have to spend several hundred dollars on initial set-up and basic map for my basic set-up. Thanks for any input.... Troop
If you mean SERT (Screaming Eagle Race Tuner) then I strongley suggest you buy it from the dealer. Also, if I'm not mistaken only a dealer of indy would be able to tune it. I use the PCIII on both my bikes; I was able to use a "canned" map on my Ultra because the set-up (Rinehart Tru Dual & SE A/C) was commonlly available. My Nightrain had to be Dyno'd in order to tune (Martin Bros WTF Exhaust & Wimmer Intake), not very common.
You can buy the cables and whatnot separate from the SEST and you could download a canned map that is comparable to your add-ons if non-HD add-ons or the right one for your add-ons if they are HD add-ons. The SEST is 32109-08A for the current one.
I order the tuner on ebay for my friend at the same price i think is the same guy,and i receive the tuner last week in a sealed box, you have to order the cd and cable separatly
just bought another one today for my brother great price

I just bought one last night from the guy on Ebay. I did alot of research and it seems he is legit. I guess I will see. It saved me about a $125.00 buying from him versus Zanotti's.
Your dealer will have the software and cable. They will also have the map you need for the basic set up. With this new tuner it automatically finds the latest maps from H-D once plugged into the computer. It seems to be alot better than the previous tuner which was the SERT.
if you mean sert (screaming eagle race tuner) then i strongley suggest you buy it from the dealer. there is no "race tuner" for new models. The super tuner has replaced the race tuner for these applications..if you are using an indy or the dealer, you do not need to buy software or cables, but you will not be able to hook up the sest yourself, should you want to. The cables and software are less then $40.
first piece of erreneous info: The one's on ebay, as long as they are sealed and unused are fine. Make sure there is a return policy and you use paypal to protect yourself.
also, if i'm not mistaken only a dealer of indy would be able to tune it.
absolutely false! Anyone who knows how to hook two wires together and can start a bike can load a 'canned map'

My nightrain had to be dyno'd in order to tune (martin bros wtf exhaust & wimmer intake), not very common. again, a false statement. Any tuner, pcxyz, sest, tts, whatever ought to be tuned by a competent tuner on a dyno to maximize the outcome.this is not an opinion. You can get a "good enough" result with a canned map, if what you want is good enough, so be it.

If what you want is close matching and you can plug in two wires and start your bike, then you too can easily install a pre made map. Once you hook up the Pro Tuner it will upgrade any firmware and software to the current from the MOCO computers data base and you pick a map closest to your application(ie: pipes, AC, cam, etc.) For loading canned maps it really isn't intimidating nor difficult. If, on the other hand, you want all you can get out of a partyicular build, even stock, find a good tuner you trust and pay him to tune it...HINT: Most Dealers DO NOT employ what I consider "Good Tuners"...A cheap tune IS NOT good and a good tune IS NOT cheap!..I bought my SEST at a dealer closeout sale for $137! And paid just under $500 for a tune that took about 11 hours and 4 days (because of weather at the time)..Make sure your tuner will allow at least one tweak session AFTER you get your bike back because you may need it.
Cool... Thanks for the info. The local dealer/service dept will be open tomorrow so I'll inquire as to tuning abilities and basic downloads. I'm sure I'll opt the $$ for the cable/dongle/software. For $226, it sounds like a good deal and lastest feedback has been +. The site shows 21 left and a bit over 48 hours to go. I think I should be safe for a day. I'm thinking the cable packaged includes the dongle and usb/mini usb type cable ? Troop
