Air intake "rain sock" question

My bike is my primary means of transportation, and in south florida it rains almost everyday. Is the rain sock good enough to protect from the rain here in south florida? I'm looking at getting the K&N air intake for my 2010 SG.

Last torrential downpour that I rode thru, had no problems with water getting thru my K&N 3" air filter. 1" of the filter is exposed under the S&S cover. It was raining so hard that I couldn't see more than 30 feet ahead. I followed a pickup truck, knowing he could see better than me.

I've never used a rain sock on my Night Train (with an open filter), and I've ridden in some serious rain. A sock can't hurt, but I don't know that it's necessary.
