Piece of cake. I bought the belt tension tool from lakeshore hd. I had used the twist method for the 5000 and 10000 mile service. When I checked with the tool it was spot on. I would say save the money for that.

Nope. Just keep all the receipts.

The 5k service is really a piece of cake. The 10k is a little more involved but still not something to take it to the dealer for.

If you don't feel like doing it then it might be a good time to get acquainted with a local Independent shop.

You should be able to twist the belt about 45 degrees.

At what location? Upper side of belt? Lower side? Mid way between the front and back pulleys? All of the above? I think mine needs to be adjusted.

Thanks,

Sath

If the belt needs adjustment you might want to buy an axle wrench like this one go to georges garage

and this tool from JIM'S 3rd hand/axle locker-although a friend would be cheaper (depending on how much beer he or she drinks) the link is the cheapest price I could find.

If the bike has a tool kit, it should have come with the axle nut wrench. If you buy another one, I suggest one like the Kastar ratcheting one as it gets up under the exhaust easier without having to drop the exhaust and then you can use the one from the bikes tool kit on the other side......or if you don't like using two or it is too hard, you can get the 3rd hand gizmo from JIM's.

Read and study the service manual ahead of time. Then take a look at the bike and you will see what tools you will need. You might also need to pick up parts ahead of time as well: gasket, o ring, oil, etc. The manual is real good about pointing out special tools that are needed for specific operations.

Document everything you do including the mileage and date of service. I put it all down in a small notebook that is specific for each of my scooters.

You will be glad you didn't give those clowns $340 to do this work to your bike.
