Default For Those Who Have Done Their Own 5K Service

I getting close to the 5,000 mile mark on my 2009 Street Glide and I'm wanting to do the service myself to save a few bucks. Dealer quoted me around $340.00.

What I'd like to know is are there any special tools that are required. I've searched and the only thing I could find was on the chain tensioner guide.

I already have the service manual and a collection of everyday tools and a torque wrench that measures in ft. lbs. just wanting to know before hand if there is anything special that I will need to do the job right.

Also any advice or tips you can give this first timer would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance

Jim.

As far as I'm concerned, you should be good to go. You obvoiusly need Torx bits, allen wrenches, assorted wrenches/sockets, snap ring pliers and of course lube for your clutch cable. One of these works well for lubing the cable:

A good set of torx bits particularly a #27 will come in real handy. Other than that, its a pretty straight forward deal.

You don't need a chain tensioner guide with your 09, you have an auto adjuster.
You should have an inch pound torque wrench to accompany your foot pound wrench

Doh!! Your right Dawg. Meant to say the belt tensioner guide not the chain.

I wonder if with an extended warranty I might need a dealer to do mine? Hmm?

You can search www.Youtube.com and find a video on pretty much any job in the Harley service manual.

Don't really need that either. I don't use it. You can use the twist method which works fine.

Sounds like you have everything needed so far! I would recommend purchasing the belt tensioner tool, and rear air shocks pump. Patience is another invaluable tool. Take your time. Your going to blow that $340 the Dealer was going to charge you out the door!
