Question Replacing clutch cable

I have an 02 RKC and had the clutch cable snapped at the lever. I have Reinhart true dual exhaust and the bracket that holds the exhaust under the tranny has a allen head screw that is behind the clutch cable and I can't get to. I need to remove the bracket as the exhaust has to be pulled out enough to remove the cover. The exhaust/heat shield has a hanger and slides down into the bracket that keeps me from moving it. Did not want to remove the exhaust from the head if possible and not sure I have the tools to do it without getting the heat shield off first. Anyone help?
Ride safe,
Mike

Easiest way is to pull the exhaust...trust me.
You'll eliminate a lot of frustration by doing it.

Not sure about the bolt you mention.
All the clutch cover bolts are on outside of clutch cable.
The one you mention is a trap door bolt, and you don't remove it to replace the cable.

I don't have Rinehart true duals, but you will most likely have to pull the exhaust to get the tranny side cover off which you have to do to get at the ball and ramp assembly to get the old cable off.

The allen bolt that is behind the clutch cable DOES NOT need to come off. It it for the bearing door not the end cover. Remove the bolts at the muffler hanger and the clamp (behind the heat shield) at tranny hanger and loosen the head flange bolts. Use a ball allen to remove the end cover.

A pic would help but I use a short arm allen to get to the trans cover bolts. Then the cover slips right out. Don't need to move the exhaust at all.

If you are going to drop the entire side of the exhaust as opposed to loosening things, put the scoot wheels up onto 2x lumber and lean it way over onto the jiffy stand so you don't have to change the tranny fluid. Drop the one side of the dual exhaust. Pull the tranny side cover. Change cable. You will need one exhaust gasket and one side cover gasket. It is easier to use the proper sized snap ring pliers for the ring securing the ball and ramp assembly, but I have used needlenose pliers. It would also be a good time to throw in the 06 and later ball and ramp assembly that eases the clutch pull.

When I changed mine, I cut a 3/8" piece off of the correct size allen wrench and used an open in wrench to turn the shortened allen wrench. Once you get it broke loose you can finish removing it with your fingers. The only thing is you can't do a proper torque when you reinstall them though so be careful to not over tighten them.

Looks like I will need to remove the exhaust. Trying to get the heat shield off to get at the bolts better but that is the hole problem. The bracket that is used for the Reinhart pipe's need to be removed to get the heat shield off.... This is where the allen head bolt is behind the clutch cable where it enters the tranny. It is a PITA so far.. Thanks for the reply. I'll keep on trying.. Idon't give up easy.

Mike
