As I am new to the forum I know this has been covered but I gotta know. I just bought an '06 RKC and am due for the 1000 mile oil change. I have put about 1200 miles on it and it is a full qt low. I am on my first Harley but have had several rice burners and none of them used any oil. My question "is this normal?" I spoke with the stealer about it on the phone and he said Harley says it is "exceptable".Any and all info would be appreciated
that is a little heavy but not out of the norm. you should use very little now after break in. use amsoil and you wont use any. i just got back from a 5000 mile journey oiut west to montana where i constantly hammered the bike for 85mph almost everyday and almost all day long. didnt use a drop. i have a 95inch big bore with andrews gear drive cams hi po exhaust and race tuner. 33000 miles on the bike.
What type of driving you been doing? If you run 80 mph on the interstate often, it can get a quart low. I had my ride go a quart low after several long interstate trips.
Well, I broke it in like the service manager said {at least for the first 50 miles } then I rode like I would any bike. Most of my riding lately has been pretty light, no hard excellerations, and nothing over 70mph sustained.
Is Amsol an oil additive? Where do I find it. What is everyones thoughts on the synthetic oil. I have heard that if you want to find any leaks to use synthetic. Will I burn more oil if I use the synthetic?
Just had mine in for the 1k check....down about 1/2 qt. Told this was normal at first. I did hear to switch to syn at the 2nd maintenance check-up. Plan on doing that. Good luck.

I have 1600 miles on mine and it has not used any that I could see, maybe a little during the first 1000, hard to say, but it's been right on since my 1K sevice. I use 20W/50 regular Harley oil in the engine.
I kept mine at or below 3000 RPM through first 500 miles per dealer instructions and then changed fluids at 1100 miles. Had not used any oil through first 1000. I switched to AMSOIL Syn. when I changed the fluids and it seems to be running a little quieter and smoother. Also used RevTech per local Indy for tranny and primary. I DEFINITLY got a smoother shift and it drops into nuetral way easier.
