on my 06 flhtci my volt meter is doing what seems to me to be wierd things. it reads 14 volts all the time, at any rpm, even idle. and when I shut it down it goes down to zero very slowly. and now I noticed that my gas gauge and oil press gauge goes down very slowly when shut down also. any ideas, do I need to run not walk to my nearest mechanic? thanks
what does the voltmeter read when you just turn the ignition on but not start it should be several volts lower running mine usally hangs close to 14 volts never pain any attention to how fast/slow they move to zero
it's got 20 k on it, and when I turn the key on it reads 10 v or so. I always thought the volt gauge fluctuated alittle, like at idle. it shouldn't be putting max charge all the time, should it?

Couldn't tell you for sure, mine's bedded down for the winter. I don't see why it would fluctuate, the one in my truck doesn't. It reads low when I just turn the key on and then heads up to 14 and stays there when it's running, no matter what the RPM's are.
With the new bikes (compared to my 95) and their upgraded chargin systems, they produce enough voltage at idle that the needle will be at 14 unless you have added lots of lights and changed your headlight and passing lights to 100w wonders.
thanks all. guese I'll find something else to worry about for awhile.
Politics, health care, terroist attacks, no ammo for my 380, take your pick.
Me I am just gonna worry about how long I have to wait for this cold weather is going to keep me off my Ultra. I am afraid it is going to think I don't love it any more and do something stupid.......you know, not start, leak somewhere, or maybe have a flat just to **** me off.
dude, you need to move. I ride at least 3-4 times a week all year long. the only thing that stops me from using my bike to comute is rain, and we're in a drought. I'll keep you in mind while I'm riding home from work tonight!!!!
