Default Sound difference with true duals?

I know there is numerous discussions about the performance gain or loss with true duals, but I am not here to [sm=deadhorse.gif]. My question is about sound.

I just put on a set of V&H ovals on my '06 SG. I think the sound is good. I like that it is not too loud unless you crack on it.

Anyway, my question is this; Does the true dual head pipes make a big difference in sound?

My last ride was a Deuce with a thunderheader. My V&H oval slip ons on my stock head pipes on the SG sound almost like a 2:1 pipe (because of the crossover), though it is not as loud as the thunderheader.

Most bikes with seperate pipes (on softails) sound like they are saying "potato, potato, potato" alternating out of each pipe. Will the true duals give me that same effect.

True duals, for the best balance of performance/SOUND/appearance....period! Anybody care to debate that?

The only loss that you will see with running true duals is your hearing in both ears. [sm=icon_rofl.gif]

Stereo versus mono

Two potatos (or is that potatoes) down (mostly) one pipe instead of one potato per pipe?

Before my TDs I could not hear the exhaust - now I simply can't hear. (not true, but you might have laughed)

True duals will sound more like a hot rod... I just put em on my rig after six months stock, and the big difference in the sound is that it comes from both pipes. It is a little louder, and a LOT deeper. Added bonus is that my butt is MUCH cooler. Curse of the crossover pipe is no more!!! Woo hoo!

Using the same mufflers, True Duals are significantly louder than the stock crossover head pipes.
I found this out when replacing my cracked (and broke thanks to the Oklahoma Hwy. Dept.) stock crossover pipes. I was running stock mufflers with the baffles drilled (1-1/8" hole saw + bit extension). With the crossover the sound level was tolerable and the sound quality was OK for the poor-man's method of muffler enhancement. When the duals were installed with the same poor-man mufflers the sound level was much greater and the sound quality was "ratty".
Also in this experience, I learned more about closed-throttle decel noises. The crack in the stock crossover Y pipe was the cause of my popping. The drilled out mufflers with the duals produced a very annoying whistle. (I've since replaced mufflers on the duals)

Cool! I have some true duals coming soon. I will be sure to put them on ASAP!

I prefer the "potato, potato, potato" sound. Don't mind the loudness either (since my last pipe was a thunder header on my Deuce). [sm=icon_rock.gif]

you won't get a real "potato, potato" sound cause the cylinders are firing separately on evos and twin cams. the old shovelheads and older engines were dual fire and fired everytime each cylinder came up. the open exhaust valve when firing enhanced the potato sound.
you can hear the individual cylinders more clearly though and it's sweet.

I must admit I miss my rineharts, but from those I talked to, (which was many) the best from a performance standpoint was two into one, and basically that is what comes on the bike.

No arguement here..............I'll back that statement up.

I went thru 6 exhaust setups in 10 months before finally finding the perfect exhaust for me.
