same problem with the multi tec chinbar too close to chin. Couldn't find the schberth anywhere local to try on. Ended up with the HJC modular. One think I didn't think of with a full face is the buffeting with a bat wing fairing. Had to do some expermenting with the windshield.
Appears to have advantages I like. Waiting to find one to try. never buy without trying first. It is the Shark Evoline Absolute.
I agree now I gotta check it out. I think I'll try http://www.cyclegear.com they ship free if you order at the store and then if its not right they will exchange or return it in seven days.
i got a hd brand modular dont really wear it much but it is nice to flip up wen u wanna talk or wutever buyin a helmut sucks cuz how it feels in the showroom and actually riding with it are two different things i have bought 5 helmuts in the past three years tryin to get sumthing that really works 4 me.
Guess I am just 'Old School', the helmet I can tolerate for long periods of ride is a DOT 1/2 helmet, open ears. Most of the guys I ride with have not come up to that level yet and as this is a helmet required state they wear skulls with fake DOT labels, their choice not mine.
There have been times I wished I had a FF as the rain stings pretty bad but I ride anyway and the heat of summer is brutal in one at least to me. The Schubert and the Shark look to be good alternatives for the likes of my type as the convert to 3/4 pretty quick and easy, I really like the added sun lens on the Shark. Maybe in the near future I will move up another notch.
I like the Shark Evoline convertable. About 100 bucks less than the Shoei and has a few more features than the Shoei. I like the fact that it converts from a FF to 3/4 without having to take the face completely off of the helmet.
I have a brand new Black Graphite Nolan N-103 with J&M integrated Bluetooth, still in the box. (Size Large.) I purchased it thru Shawn at Dr. V-Twin, who still has it, as I am currently out of the country.
If anyone would like it for $120 less than the internet price that J&M sells it for, let me (or Shawn at Dr. V-Twin, 888-DR-V-TWIN, WWW.DRVTWIN.COM ).
I'm shopping for a helmet as well, so I'm watching this one. My son swears by the Shoei brand helmets, and he was out here this Christmas trying to get me go with the Multi-tec as well. I'd really like to find a Modular that's Carbon Fiber, (weight is an issue because I do so many long days in the saddle) and I'm not having much luck with that. Good fit is key, and think you've got to try a lot of helmets on to make sure you've found the right one. Let us know what you come up with.
I have just about 1 of every helmet . I can say the best thing to do is try try try as stated above. Every helmet company and style fits each head shape differently. I personally LOVE my Nolan modular. Price is affordable (just around or over, +/- 300). Also has the ability to hook up blue tooth units (as costly as the helmet itself). But that's a cool feature. It also has the flip down sun shades. That freaking rocks! It is also pretty quiet for a modular. Keep in mind that prices go way up like when going with the likes of Arai. The best fitting, most comfortable, quietest helmet i have is a Jolly Rodger Arai FF. Of course it put a $700 dent in the wallet! Funny thing is i usually wear my HCI jocky style helmet. Best looking DOT helmet i could find that didn't look like a mushroom.
The second piece of advice i have is this... Buy your helmet from a place like Cycle Gear! They give a 7 day return on it. Take it and ride the crap out of it. This whole thing of wear it around the store for 30 minutes is crap. Sitting the helmet on your head does nothing like the wind does when it puts pressure on your head. You'll never know the hotspots they create until you ride them for longer periods. 90+% of all places will not let you return a helmet when you walk out the door with them. This is a crap policy over all because i have bought expensive helmets just to find out that after wearing them in the wind for an hour and a half my head is about to explode. Felt really good in the store though!
Best of luck on your helmet shopping!
Pretty darn savvy advice. Thanks. Never knew of a place that would let you return a helmet after you've ridden with it. I'm going to take a look at their web site. Appreciate the comments.
