Default stage one with stock mufflers

I have a 2008 ultra. the only mod I have made is V and H tru dual headers, I re-used the stock mufflers (I like the bike quiet). Is there any gain in adding the stage one?

Just curious. What was the purpose of changing the headers? Is the performance boost significant without changing the mufflers and air cleaner?

yes a good tune and air intake will give it some gains the biggest being it will run cooler witch= less ping, you should also notice less lugging, look at fuel moto very reasonable and great customer service.

Good advice here. I also have a 08 Ultra. I still have the stock header's.I did the Stage1 from Dealer. I was going to keep my stock mufflers. I didn't get the results from the stage1 alone as I wanted more throttle response. I bought a set of Dyna Tuned Jackpot's from Jamie at FuelMoto. Great set of Muffler's. Great price, Great sound, Great service. I'm getting the benefit of the stage1 now, but if I had it to go over with, I would have got the entire package from FuelMoto. I would have saved some $$$ and had better results. If you do some reading on this forum, you can get all the info you need to make the best and cheapest choice in getting what you want.
Good luck

I recently bought my 08 UC. I had an 09 Classic. It was a nice bike and Harley had made some nice changes, but there were thing's I didn't like about it...after thought, I wanted ABS and the goodies that came on the ultra. Plus I wanted the 105th because I have a HD 105th anni. F150 Ford Truck. I had also bought a lot of HD 105th anni vest, jacket's for my wife and I. JUST ME! From all the research I've done, I think the heat is mainly generated by these 96 engines being leaned out so much because of EPA BS. If you don't like loud mufflers, FuelMoto has a Dyna Tuned slipon with the quiet Baffle. IMO the best way for you to go without wasting alot of money. Get the PC-V, AF, Muffler's. I have the stage1 DL from the Dealer. I'm going to try it until hot weather. If it's too hot still, I'm going with the PC-V to richen it up some more. At worst with the PC-V, you lose a little in gas mileage. Theres a wealth of info on this forum and these guy's are always willing to jump in and help. Good Luck!

All modern vehicles including Harleys run with very lean air/fuel ratios, plus very quiet exhausts and air boxes. They are also very high geared, to lower engine rpm at noise metering speeds.

So a Stage 1 normally puts right some or all of those things. If you fit different mufflers (they don't have to be noisy) and replace the air box the engine will breath more freely, but will need remapping to give decent air/fuel ratio.

I don't see why you cannot remap your bike as it is to run less lean. That should reduce heat and also make the bike run sweeter. I suggest you look into reducing gearing, which will make it really pick up its heels! I have reduced gearing on my Dyna which is now great.

More air in you need to let more air out.

How can you tell that the stock mufflers are not able to exhaust more air?

The fact that they are quiet tells you they are not exhausting as much as an aftermarket. Putting a high flow air fliter on and not letting it out the other end is kind of like eating too much and becoming bloated. You won't notice much improvement untl you exhaust what you're putting in. Of course you can exhaust too much also. Like straight pipes. Want to exhaust a little more and have a little more noise on stock mufflers? Punch a hole through the baffles.
