Corporate aircraft maintenance manager. As an aircraft technician I've worked on Cessna 150s to Boeing 737s. In the Marine Corps I was a Douglas A-4 tech.

Angry 31% White Collar owners

The MOCO has abandoned it's loyal customer base for the yuppie white collar with a weekend biker woodie, who buys a new Harley because he/she watched a bunch of Builder shows, owns it for 3-4 years and dumps it on the used bike market because he/she doesn't really ride it any more, with a total of 22,000 miles on it, if that. The average Blue collar will not buy the newest model off the showroom at $25,000+, but instead, buy a used motorcycle who's owner has had the MOCO perform all of the maintenance for inflated labor rates, targeted at the yuppie, at a substantial savings. Why? it's broken in, well maintained with a minimum of miles on it and likely every upgrade available. Mean while, VictIndiPolaris what ever, will walk away with the market share because HD got greedy? There are a lot of brand loyalists, but will they be able to buoy up HD until the used HD glut dissipates or will they too discover that maybe VictIndiPolaris is more reliable at a competitive price? Will the new Milwaukie 8 restore faith in reliability? I probably won't, but then again like many, I do my own maintenance as much as I can with 118,400 miles and counting. Oh, I'm a blue collar veteran working for a County Wastewater Treatment facility.

If that is so then nothing has changed since I bought my first Harley back in the '70s! In fact it's been the same since bikes and cars became popular a century or more ago - those who can afford new vehicles buy them, then after a while sell them on to those who can't. Plus ca change.

Enjoy your ride!

I've really enjoyed this thread. Been interesting to see how diverse riders who prefer Harleys are. FWIW, I seriously doubt that any corporations that sells goods has any desire to limit those sales to a particular subset of the business world. A sale is a sale, period. I know the purchased item, whether a motorcycle, or a riding mower, cares in the least what job is done by the one riding them.

Retired now, I still work part time, selling large appliances and bath accessories for THD. We have to wear shirts with a collar, but doesn't have to be white. Been considering buying another Harley, but since I'm unsure where I fit (never a yuppie), maybe need to wait awhile to figure that out, and to make sure MoCo isn't going out of business soon.

Retired at 58 from AEP, then back to work again for the same electric utility company as a Transmission Construction Manager. They need help spending money upgrading the grid.
