I almost purchased HID kits on Ebay till I found out some interesting info... None of them are DOT approved. I know you might think it's not important, but I guess it's more dangerous to have lighting that blinds oncoming drivers than to be able to see yourself. I opted for the Kuryakyn HID kit. It is a high/low beam setup and has great visibility, day or night. Check it out, you can also purchase it on www.drvtwin.com, this is where I purchased it... ask for Shawn, he's good people.

your correct about the DOT... But, I just purchased the dual bulb halogen set-up from HD (this is the same housing HD uses for their HID kit) and removed/replaced factory hals for HID. Total installation time was about an hour taking my time to make sure everything was plug n play.
I have them for over a year. I rode across the country last Summer and never got hassled. I have never had complaints about blinding other drivers nor have I ever been stopped by the police for having them.
Id love to do all the front lights in HID, the 2 spots and the main. Anyone do this?

So here are some pictures and what they represent...
This is simply running two wires I made, one for power and one for ground from the battery. (pictures are the pre-route, before tying up and grooming the run)
I chose a heavier wire gauge to deliver power to the relay and removed the center console portion of the tank to get the wires to the fairing.
I opt'd to use a relay and the factory Halogen bulb housing kit you can purchase from HD. One hurdle you will have to over come is the sealed unit this kit comes with to split power to the two bulbs this new unit uses.... But, that's very easy! A 90 degree female water proof spade can be purchased from your local automotive store. This will give you a very clean install.
1st picture is of the relay I used (12vdc, 40a)
Next picture is getting everything into the cavity of the old headlight. Here I've wire loomed my power supply I created in the first pictures and also loomed the supporting wires from not only the HD kit but from the DDM kit as well. What you can't see in this picture is just to the left (as viewed from the front of the bike) a HID power supply that has been double back taped to the inside of my front fairing housing. The small box to the right is the HID ignitor, it will also be double back taped but you need to test fit the whole assy prior to doing this...
last picture, headlight installed making sure there is plenty of room for all the new wires/relays/etc...
Last couple of pictures show the light installed and turned on... Note the color difference between the headlight and supporting lights. This was a 35 watt 6K, HID and the supporting lights are HD factory. I did upgrade those as well but don't have a picture.. Over all this install should take less then an hour that will last you a life time.
It only takes a few more minutes to lift the tank and run the wires throught the harenss guide under the tank - and you wont have to worry about the paint on your tank being rubbed off.
