Default XM Module

Before Christmas I debated on whether to get the XM module or try to get a bracket for a portable XM radio and attach it to the handle bars for my 2009 Ultra. Santa got me the module for Christmas and I installed it yesterday. Gotta say real easy install and I sure am glad I got the module instead of something mounted to the handle bars. If you are thinking about a XM setup, spend the extra money and go with the module.

XM is a nice feature to have especially on those long trips.

It is nice that the module allows the use of the hand controls on the radio. That is a very nice and worthwhile feature.

I am still on the fence though. The module is 400.00 from lshd1.com (20% off msrp) and the wiring harnes is about 35.00. So, with shipping and the mount, I'm figuring that it will be about 475.00.

I can get a Zumo 550 GPS that has the XM capability built into it for about 600.00. So, I guess you could say that the GPS costs about 125.00 over the price of the module. I really only listen to 3 different stations, so I guess I wouldn't miss the hand controls that much?

Decisions, Decisions....

thanks for the info. is this the harness that works for the xm module on the ultra and allows you to re-connect rear speakers, intercom, cb, etc?

Why do they make the harness selection so damn confusing??

The harness allows you to connect everything. The harness that comes with Ultra doesn't have the connector for the XM.

The wiring harness listed above works only with the Ultra and allows coplete functionality for the xm module and all standard components, speakers, intercom, cb etc. Different touring models or additional components may require a different wiring harness

Question

I have an 08 Ultra with the module. While researching what harness I needed, two were available, one being Ultra specific. The price mentioned previously I think was for the Classic models and the Ultra was more expensive. Someone else on this forum is very well versed in this install. They have a PDF that has the complete install instructions and what harness you'll need for your bike. The name escapes me for the moment but maybe he is viewing and will post the info again.
