Default Made a costly mistake today

2 days ago I mounted the newly painted set of fairing lowers onto my RKC that I was so proud of. What I wasn't aware of and gave it not consideration until I went for a ride, that you can't have chrome wind deflectors and lowers on at the same time. When I turned the forks to lock, the chrome wind deflectors scrapped about 1/2" of paint off of the lower caps. Back to the paint shop again. I learn something new everyday about Harleys. It would have only took 1/8" less width on the chrome wind deflectors and you could have both.

Who else found this out the hard way?

Im sorry to hear of your mishap.
Admitting to ones mistakes is noble and humble. Passing the information on can only bring good Karma to you my friend.
I thank you and will pass this information on to a friend of mine that has wind deflectors on and has been entertaining the thought of adding lowers to his RKC.
Be safe

That really sucks...

Is that by chance the same fork baffle included on the '09 and earlier FLTR's?

Damn, that hurts just thinking about it. I removed mine while the lowers were on the way here, and sold em to a forum member. I did lots of reading up before my purchase and found out you can't run both. I guess I should have warned you, since I knew you were installing them.............

OUCH!

No these are the chrome wind deflectors that mount on the outside of the forks.

Big time bummer. Your post caused me to look up the wind deflectors and the fairing lowers on HD's website P&A catalog to see what, if anything, they say about fitment of these accessories.

Nothing is said about vented lowers not working on bikes with the wind deflectors.

BUT, the description of the wind deflectors say they won't work with fairing lowers:

Chrome Wind Deflectors

Easily attaches to fork brackets for protection from the elements. Accent the full dress look.

58121-85B

Fits '83-later FLHT, FLHS, and FLHR models. (Does not fit models equipped with fairing lowers or lighted fork slider kit.) Does not fit FLHX models or models equipped with Custom Front Bullet Turn Signal Kits P/N 69577-06 and 69492-05.

MSRP US $69.95

Bikes, thanks for the heads-up albeit at considerable expense to yourself.
