Has anyone swapped the Street Glide hard bags with the Road King Custom hard leather bags? Is it a direct swap without adjustment or hardware? The RKCustom's bags are kinda narrow and I was thinking of changing them. Not in a hurry to do so, but curious.
I've seen the regular RK hard bags swapped for the RK Classic's leather bags and vice versa. I believe ApeKing put regular RK hard bags on his RK Custom. Maybe you can talk to him.
It is a dirrect swap, you only need to adjust the brackets. And here is a pic of my FLHT with RK Classic bags to give you an idea of what it looks like.
Ive noticed lately that my painted bags seem to tilt out slightly at the top. Also I had to "fine tune" the rubber mounts on the bottom rear of both bags and they are still a pain in the A$$ to get the back pin ligned up. Me and a buddy who has an 06 Ultra got to looking and my bags have a spacer on the mounting bracket that his dont. We think this is why they are kinda kicked out at the top and why I had the alignement issues. As soon as I get a rainy day Im gonna get some shorter bolts and try to remove the spacer and see what happens. The tilt is very slight but after riding behind me for several hundred miles he noticed it.
Thanks for the input!!! I'm glad it is a direct swap. I understand the different opinions on using another model's bags, but the hard bags give a little bit more room. I can't roll my heavy leather jacket w/ liner into the hard leather bags without risking damage to it by jamming it in. A friend of mine can put the same jacket easily into his fiberglass RK bags. I have also had my saddlebag fail to open when I "overloaded" it. What a pain to get back open. I really did not have that much stuff in it. I also like the ability to change the look of the bike at a whim. Thanks again and ride safe.
After posting the above, I realized my friend's are RK bags and I referred to the SG bags. I wonder if the RK fiberglass bags would be a direct swap as well?
