Try messing with the litle tab under the lock ...it's the little tab that let's you remove the whole cylinder...it may be stuck in the in position. Take a screwdrive and hit the assembly with the handle....something might be stuck...sometime jarring it a bit ....

Do you have a manual? I know on an 07 there is a litte tab under the lock. You put in the ignition key and turn it all the way left while pushing that tab with a small screw driver and turn the key alittle bit past the unlock past the unlock position, pull up and that will remove the ****. See if that free's it up. Once you remove the ****, be sure to put it in the same way. There are thread's on the touring forum that will explain it. In fact there is a video on it here. Do a search, you'll find it. I think it's under video of ignition switch removal, pg 1. If the lock is bad you can unlock the fork's with a screw driver. Watch the video. You'll see what I mean. And welcome home. Good luck!

You may just have a sticking tumbler in the lock. Try spraying some WD40 in it , let it sit then try and work the key.

OK, the tech arrived at my house yesterday afternoon, and evaluated the fork lock. He tried all the things I tried and that you suggested; lubing the barrel, tapping the lock, to no avail. We ended up forcing the key into the "unlock" position to release the forks, and loaded my brand new baby into the trailer. Northwest Harley Davidson transported her back to the shop, and evaluated the problem. The service manager called me this morning and said the internal workings of the lock were defective, and that a new one would have to be ordered from the distributor. Because it had to be keyed to the bike, it would take about two weeks to get here.

Glad I still have the Heritage to scoot around on!

Thank you all for your suggestions and feedback!
