Default Question for DIY Service???

I saw this somewhere in earlier post, but can't find it now. I just started doing my own fluid changes. The service manual calls for 4 qt's of Oil for the engine. I ran the bike until it was hot, put it on the lift and removed the Filler cap, drain plug and oil filter. I let it drain for at least 30 min. Almost no drips left. I reinstalled everything and put in 4 qt's. Started the bike and let it idle while I checked for leaks. After shutting it down, I checked the oil and it's over the fill mark. I went out this morning and checked it cold. It's right on the full mark. Is it too full of oil???

I put 3.9 quarts in mine. When hot it is at the full level.

When I change oil, I'll put 3.5 quarts in the oil pan and run it at idle for 3 minutes. Then I'll ride it for about 10 minutes, and then re-check the oil level and add till it's full.

You will be okay with the 4 quarts in it,mine takes just a little bit under 4 quarts. This can also depend on what brand filter you are using.

This is the best way to do it but your not going to hurt it with 4qts.

Keep an eye on your air filter. With that much oil, you'll likely see a little (maybe even a lot) of oil dripping from the bottom of the air filter.

Thanks, this explains the oil in my filter on the 09 EGC I had. After taking it to an Indy for the 10K service, I noticed a small amout of oil dripping from my air filter. I thought at the time he may have gotten too much oil in the K&N filter after cleaning it.

Mine usually takes a little less also. Just out of curiosity did you take the bike off the stand before checking the oil? If you did not then it would show the oil higher than it should be when on the kick stand.
