Is there anything in particular that I should be concerned about or have looked at (whether given the low miles or model year)? Like I said earlier, cosmetically the bike is 100% but I'm no mechanic by any stretch of the imagination.

Your comments and help are much appreciated!

I have an 01 RKC, EFI, Teal and White and love it. So far, the only problem I'VE found with it is when trying to line up the stage 1 upgrades, they aren't as readily availiable for the mm as they are for the delphi. They're out there, just have to look a little harder. (for instance, look on the fuelmoto website and everything for the RKC starts at 2002.)
That said, I still love my bike. Ive actually heard people say as I pull into a cruise in or a bike night "that's a good lookin bike". Oh what a feeling

A 2001 RK with low miles is the way to go. And a carbed bike is going to run cooler, need less $$ for repairs, can be easily changed/modified without great expense if you change the pipes or do some performance stuff, and etc,.....

I also have a 2001 Roadking Classic and enjoy it so much that I have put a lot more money into it over the years than I could ever get back. The M&M fuel injection has proven perfectly reliable through a 95" (Joe Minton Build) engine modification which resulted in a Max Power of 75.75 and a Max Torque of 99.10.

As posted earlier, the cam chain tensioners on any pre 2007 model will need upgraded at some point. Due to the more consistent build quality of the older engines, I was able to install gear driven cams which eliminates all tensioner concerns. A SE Six Speed transmission was added which nicely compliments the snappy stock 3.37 gear ratio that many are adding on to their newer models.

A long list of other accessories (tach, fairing, tour pack, ...) supports my satisfaction with a 2001. Not believing that newer is necessarily better, I have carefully made improvements suggested by knowlegable members of this forum and believe that I am the better for having done so.

Hope this somewhat lengthy reply helps.

An '01 with 4K? This is a no brainer... go for it! You're going to LOVE that bike. Price is probably $500 - 1000 (tops) more than it should be, but that bike isn't even broken in yet. Forget about the cam warning (though a valid warning on a much higher mileage bike). That won't be a concern of yours for quite a while.

An '01 has a forged crank and the stronger Timken bearing. The bottom end in it is superior to the later model bikes.

I bought an 01 Ultra in 07 with 4,900 miles. Everything was great til an exhaust lifter collapsed at 13,400 miles. Indy said it was probably caused by letting the bike sit all that time til i bought it. Now has just shy of 22,000 and still running great. Also had the tensioners changed at the same time.
