Been lurking around this site for a while, and finally decided to get a Road King.
I'm really torn because I want low miles and mint condition but don't want to spend a lot ($10K or so) for a first Harley.
I live in Georgia, and found a nearby 01 RKC for $10,500 with only 4K miles in mint condition. However, for that or just a tad more money, I can get a 04-05 RKC but with a lot more miles and maybe not in as good condition. I really want the 01 RKC with the low miles and love the two tone color (teal and white). That said, I wonder whether a 3 or 4 year newer bike would be the way to go, even if not in as good condition. I want the Classic because of the wheels, bags, etc. although I realize the 01 doesn't have cruise.
I would go with the '01. My '99, after cam bearing replacement, which shouldn't be a problem with yours, has run strong and reliable. If you go with higher mileage bikes, even and 04 or 05 you will need to be concerned about cam tensioner replacement. Eventually you will have to do it to the '01, but you should be good for a while. Price seems okay, not great, but not bad either.

Any thoughts? Thanks much!
I had a 2001 RK Standard(hard bags) in the solid Teal and never saw another one on the road the whole 3 years I owned that bike. I LOVED that bike. You can always get cruise added on.
I think you're answering your own question(bold above).
I think this is personal preferance. Outside of cold start-ups, my carb runs as well as any of my friends EFI's. Usually better millage, just as fast off the line, and top end. I can push start it need be (hasn't happened yet) And I don't need a tuner or map every time I change pipes etc...
