I have not used the e3's but in the past during multiple engine builds I have found the over priced or different than stock plugs only to be good for solving issues such as pinging or fouling plugs. No increase performance to any great degree if the build is close to stock say a stage1 build. It wouldn't be worth the time to find a plug if you are not having issues. On a more radical build experimenting with plugs can allow you to play with timing in some cases, even the position of the electrode in the cylinder can change this, allowing you to tune the engine differently thus a change in preformance.
I put the NGK iridium plugs in my stock 2006 injected road king and there was no noticable dfference, at least seat of the pants, but they did cause my check engine light to come on. Someone explained that they have less resistance and the computer sees that and thinks there is an issue. I'm not sure about that but I won't buy them again. It runs fine but not worth the money for no gain. I'll go back to a stock plug next time. I thik the marketing hype and packaging lures us all becasue we want the best for our babies and we are looking for the latest and greatest. If they ever make a snuggie to fit my road king, I'll be all over that!
E3's are an off-shoot of the Splitfire gimmick. Much the same as those tornado making swirly things that go into your intake,
supposedly to give your car or truck more power.
Boy, if you guys would just use those plugs, put a turbultor tornado, and one of those oil filters that give you 12 horsepower, there would be no need to bore or stroke your motors. But if you really want "free power", get some of that oil additive that Shelby sells, a few of those power pills for the gas tank, A set of those reworked stock mufflers,And don't forget the magic synthetic wheel bearing grease that really gets those wheels spinning fast. Remember they couldn't make those claims if they weren't true.,,,
I didn't think I would see a difference but it was quite obvious. Better starting, seems to be a smoother acceleration.
I have an 09 RK and just installed those S/E plugs yesterday and noticed the same thing, I am glad someone else has comfirmed that, I thought I was crazy but it starts quicker and I have a smoother acceleration and idle, the reason i went with those is because it seemed that the stock spark plug could not handle the heat i was always having to set the gap on the rear one every 3k miles, we'll see what happens.
Ok, I'll ask. What are you looking to get over the stock HD plugs? More intense spark? Hotter spark? I mean, if it ain't broke, don't fix it. Having problems with your stock plugs firing right?
