Has anybody regeared an 09 roadking? Would like more torque, and what will it effect like cruise? shift light? Also what gears would you use?
and what is the stock gear ratio? Thanks!!
I would go with some motor upgrades and forget regearing. Start with an exhaust, air cleaner and fuel management system. I think you'll be much happier.
Harleys have been over-geared for at least 20 years, the latest models even more so. I fitted a SE 21T sprocket kit to my Dyna, replacing the 25T compensator, which increased torque at the rear wheel by 19%. That is the cheapest way to tune a Harley!
For a touring bike that might be a bit extreme, but if you fit a 30T crank sprocket to replace the stock 34T you will achieve a 13% increase in torque. Engine speed at any given road speed will be increased by the same amount, so if you like to cruise at say 3,000rpm, to travel at the same road speed you will need to use 3,400rpm.
I thought I needed lower gearing on my 2009 also. Then I found out the 2009's already have an extra 2 teeth on the rear pulley. It seemed like I instnatly had more torque. If that doesn't work, I agree with the earlier poster to add pipes, stage 1 first. Pipes might take care of the whine also.
