Default Trailer for F150

I own an 07 F150 supercrew and i am considering buying some sort of trailer for the wife's Honda Shadow 750 and my 09 FLHX. The trailer would only be used for transporting the bikes to rallys and such that are pretty far away. I can't decide if i want an enclosed trailer or open. Don't really want to break the bank on this either. Was hoping i could get some opinions here and even some suggestions on what to buy.

thanks.

If you want a good top quality open trailer, I suggest forgetting about a utility trailer and buy a motorcycle trailer. One of the best is made by Big Tex. Do a web search for big tex model 35MC.

The cash that you are going to drop on a trailer would be better spent moving your wife into a Harley.

I have both and always use the enclosed Trailer. It takes a little more gas to pull it, But your bike is clean when you get there. It's also like having your garage with you on the road. I don't worry about my bike being stolen or vandalized at night. Mines a 6X10 V-nose made by Carry-on. I bought it on Ebay from Trailersforless in Newnan Ga.

I myself am thinking about a trailer. I have never trailered a bike in my life. Rode it to Sturgis 3 times just to mention and to little Sturgis twice. But a very good open trailer that wont break the bank, in my opinion , is the Kendon trailer. Some HD dealers carry them.

I bought my 6 by 10 drop gate utility, about 8 months ago, for $500. New will run you twice that or more. Point is, there are some good units out there for decent prices. I strongly recommend going at least 10 feet, box or open. 8 feet may, "be enough", but enough is all it will be. I have seen some pretty neat modifications to open trailers that did a very good job of protecting the bikes. Sheet metal covers that angle up to protect the fender and/or fairing are fairly easy to design and produce.
As stated, the biggest advantage with the more costly box, (a good used one in 6X10 will run between $2000 and $3000), is that you have a place to store the bikes, out of sight.

I have 97 Kendon that I bought used off Ebay a few years back. Works great and I keep it in the garage because you can stand it on end.

An enclosed trailer is worth the money. Nice to have the bike(s) protected and clean. They are pricey but well worth getting 7' wide 10'+ length with two axles and brakes. You'll appreciate the axles and brakes when you're pulling it.
