I'm thinking of changing my stock black switch housings on a 2006 electra glide standard with cruise controls and radio controls. I have the easy bolt on covers by Kuryakyn that don"t require taking apart the switch housings. I was wondering how hard it is to actually take them apart and replace them with the chrome ones, On a scale of 1-10 1 being say changing the battery 10 being engine work. If I decide to change the housings is it worth doing the handlebar grips as well does the increase the difficulty level by alot. Thanks for any insight
In my opinpion, it is about 3-4. Nothing hard to take a part and put back together. The hardest thing is not pinching wires. I have done bunch a sets. With the radio controls, it just takes a little longer. With a 6 pack and some patience it should take about 1-2 hours. Normally when I am switching out the controls I also do the grips since you have to remove the throttle anyways.
I don't do engine work, but I have changed switch housings a couple of times. I agree, its about a 3 or 4. You may want to do switch caps at the same time so you don't have to take them apart again.
