Default stereo install

This is probably a question more for the EVO touring owners ( then again maybe not ) I'm installing an Alpine stereo into my 89 FLHTP and the old stereo I took out had the head unit black siliconed to the metal HD back mounting plate , he actually did such a good job that I didn't realize it until I removed it, so the back plate the one with 4 holes in the corners and 2 holes for the front platic plate to mount to sandwhiched the old stereo in nicely. Now that I want to mount the new head unit I realize why he used the black silicone, the unit fits loosely into the back mounting plate, I was wandering have any of you guys come across this issue with the loose fit?
