Default stripped bolt in primary cover. Please help

Uggghhhh. I stipped one of the bolts on the primary cover. I have painstakingly filed a groove to put a large screwdriver in but can't get it to budge. I have applied a lot of force but I don't want to strip this out yet so I am looking for advice. I have tried to loosen it when hot and cold. I have a Craftsman screw extractor but I have not had luck using it on other screws. I have seen another brand that is a different type I could get.

Any suggestions? Heat? WD40? Glue a Hot Topper on and worry about it at service time?

I had the same thing happen to me and also i had to file a grove for a large screw driver, i ended up using an impact driver to get the screw out.

I'd bring it to a dealer...they have the tools and the Heli coil you might need after they remove the broken bolt.

Or if your comfortable.....use the ez out with some heat. But if you don't know what ur really doing...let the dealer do it...Good luck either way...You'll be OK.

I swear they do that on purpose. Change em out to stainless or chrome ones.

Think a 1/4 inch drill it will do the trick. Pop the head off and when you take the cover off, you'll be able to take the rest off with your fingers.

An impact driver will most likely do what you need, & it'll be handy other times. www.kk.org/cooltools/archives/000723.php

+1 This is how I used to do it on old bikes. I would then use some vise grips to get the rest of it out.

Ditto. Has happened to me twice. Same solution both times. Now keep a couple of spares around. Tried without any sucess up here in the wilds of almost northen Ontario to get allen bolts of correct size.

This had happened to me also. It will take two people but this way will work. Use a square shanked screwdriver, one that you can get a wrench on. Then insert your screwdriver into the screw and hit the screw driver with a hammer (sharp blows), at the same time as the screwdriver is hit apply moderate force the the wrench.
