A simple check of your spark plugs would most likely have told you how lean you were running.

Also, I changed over from Harley Syn to Amsoil this weekend and it dropped my temp by 10 degrees easy. And the bike runs very different (less decel popping even!).

240-260 seems hot as hell to me at cruising speed...holy crap. But I don't own a Harley yet......I'd have to sell my Bonneville first....not sure I will though since it doesn't heat me up at all really even in 90 degree temps. My sportbike does run HOT....up to 230 at prolonged stoplights in 90 degree weather....couldn't imagine 240 at cruising speed...[]

The remap should help you out a lot. You might also consider an oil cooler IF you do a lot of riding.

I was talked out of the Oil Cooler from my dealer this year, basically said the bike was supposed to run "warm" the engine is designed to dispell heat, blah, blah, blah... Didn't need an oil cooler up her in MA. Guess what, she's getting an Oil Cooler ;-)

I'm going to replace the primary and tranny oil as well. Amsoil suggest 20-50 MCV in the tranny, but many of you folks are running
75-90 (Redline or Amsoil)... Again, I'm not a mechanic, whay the 75-90 when HD and Amsoil suggest the 20-50?

BTW Primary will get Amsoil MCV 20-50 or Mobil 1 V Twin. If I go with the Amsoil, I'll buy enough for all the holes in her for the next oil change(s).

Thanks,
Joe

Quick Update.

It's been a few days since I installed the PC III preloaded with a map for my bike and changed the oil from HD syn to Mobil 1 V-Twin.

Basically, she's a different bike. No popping, smoother and if it' at all possible, it even sounds quieter???
The SE2 slip-ons do sound like they are a bit quieter, I figure it must be just me as I don't understand how this could be the case
(with the exception of no popping now).

The real proof though was this. We are having a little heat wave up here in the North East (MA). Yesterday was 90+ and after a 20 mile ride in moderate traffic (a few stops here and there at lights, little city riding etc...) the temp of the oil was only
206 I have never, and I mean EVER seen my oil temp below 245 on this bike once it's been running for more than 10 minutes.
Normally after this exact same ride, I wolud see 255 - 265 easy!

I've been running Amsoil MCV 20-50 in all three holes for the last 8k. No problems, bike runs a bit cooler. On thing you may want to check, while your checking for airleaks, is where headers bolt to the exhaust manifold. Even a slight leak here can, and will cause decel pop. The bolts should be torqued after some miles and checked periodically. Shortly after the stealer did a Stage 1 on mine with SERT, I was getting decel pop pretty regularly, especially if going down hill. Sure enough the bolts at the manifold were 'finger tight'. Torqued them to spec and solved the problem. As far as having the bike to the dealer for it's 10k so there can't be an airleak at the intake, don't count on it. Theres good wrenches, bad ones, ones who are pissed off, and ones who don't give a F%^&. It doesn't hurt to double check their work. After having my 500 mile done, coming home and being 1 quart low, they have not, and will not, touch my bike again, except for warranty work.

jlacasci, I had pretty much the same experience as you with heat, popping and also some coughing on my '06 RG. Dang thing would go into heat management in no time flat. Installed the PCIII, runs like a champ. I'm sure the oil cooler will shave some degrees off when cruisin, but won't do much when you're stopped of course.

Glad to see its workin for ya too. BTW I'm in MA too and its just too damn hot right now! Can't wait till tomorrow, its gonna be 80, definitely takin the bike to work What stealer did ya get the bike from?

I got the bike from Precision Harley in Pawtucket RI... However, I don't go back there that often. Once in a while for a part or some other items. My primary dealer now is Monty's in West Bridgwater. Best place around IMHO, they've owned it for years, owned by "real" bikers. Their labor rates are nearly 1/2 that of Precision, no issued ever returning an item unlike Precision. Actually, it was Monty's that talked me out of spending money on the Oil Cooler. First dealer that tried to talk me out of parting with some coin.

Just FYI...you mentioned that you wanted to improve your fuel mileage while also keeping your bike cooler. You cannot have both. Setting the fuel map a bit on the rich side will add longevity to your engine, and make it run a little cooler, but, it will lower your fuel mileage. I prefer the lower fuel mileage myself.

This has been a very interesting subject. Most of the post that I have read about the results of installing True Duels is that they look better.
I have read several posts that indicated that there is negligible performance improvement if any at all. I local bike performace shop even admits that the performance characteristics improvement is minimal.

As far as reducing the exhaust heat, I'm not sure about that either. Most of the heat I feel seems to be coming from the rear jug and the bike I rode with TD exhaust on it, I couldn't tell any difference.

This is just my opinion so do take this to the bank. I haven't had enough experience on a Harley yet to know anything for sure.
