I will be looking into upgrading my garage lighting next month. Right now I have a few double 60 watt bulbs that are not to good and cast shadows while working on the bike. I am looking for any ideas. Side note, the garage is in Daytona Beach where the temps don't usually go below 30.
Walmart had 4'ft fixtures for $15 each. They work when it's cold (a must where I live ).
I put up 16 of them in my 30' X 40' pole barn. Still could use a little more light in the front corner, but other than that they light up everything very well.
I have a 3 car garage and the first thing I did was take down the 4 incandescent fixtures and put up 4' double bulb fluorescent lights. Plenty of light without shadows. The only problem I have is when the doors are up the back 2 are covered up
Go to your local electrical supply and look for fluorescent bulbs that go into an incandescent fixture. I have 3 in a 26X26 garage and it is like daytime at all times.
the ones at Home Depot and such are NOT the same. These are TCP 42 watt fluorescent that are rated as 150 watt incandescent output.Spendy but they last for years and mine are on a lot.

i used 3 4 foot quad tube units made for suspended cieling in a 13x22 area plus 2 double 4 foot units mounted on the bottom of the cabinets over work bench....can you say daylight!....i hate working in the dark
I would use T-5 fluorescent at least T-8..... T-12 is the normal ones weve had for years .........T-5 lamps are about 5/8 in diameter put out a tremendous amount of light........Buy a pair put them up then decide how many you need.....They also have electronic ballasts in them NO HUM!
I have a small garage that is heated. I have 2 4' 4 bulb flourescents and 8 canister lights around the sides on two different switches. The garage is only 12x30. I set it up for woodworking, but it works great for working on the bike. Plenty of light especially with a 6' window and windows in the garage door.
