I have 20 and can retire at half pay. No additional benefits to staying longer. I am only 41 right now, and have two young children, both less than 10. I can't go anywhere yet, but am looking for a way out...
HA! I retired (from the US Army) in '94........but, still workin'. Can't afford (yet) to live on my retirement.......plus, if I quit now, how am I gonna bling out my scoot? Congrats, Mano, and, Thank you for your service, sir!!!!
Today I completed my 20th year of law enforcement. I am officially able to retire as of right now!
20 years is a lot of doughnuts. J/K
Congratulations on a job well done. I hit 20 years in the Marine Corps 5 Feb 10. We should both retire and hit the road for a couple years. Nothing like a monthly retirement check to cover gas, food, lodging, tires, etc.
I got out after 30 years also. Would've stayed on but big changes to our benefits were on the horizon. Wife and I have health care for life and kids are covered until age 23, as long as they are students. All that at no cost to me. Guys now are under a different contract and are paying anywhere from 4 to 7 percent with stipulations in the contract to allow the state of Pa. to raise that anytime they want. You might stay on and get more in your pension but will end up paying more for health care. Something to think about. And no, you're not too young. You put in your time.
